Fast facts on WATER (II)
Today we have some tips on how to save water in the home. I´m sure you are aware of some of them but i´m sure you´ll learn something new…
WATER SAVING TIPS…
TO OPTIMIZE WATER IN YOUR HOME…
- Install water saving fixtures such as aerated taps, toilet cisterns with half and full flushes (you can now get 3/6 litres per flush), taps with two phase opening (reduce hot water consumption).
- Ensure taps etc. are all fully closed when not in use and monitor your water bill to check for leaks!!
IN THE KITCHEN…
- If you buy bottled water for your home, stop. There are now many filters available which will filter the regular tap water to the standard of bottled water.
- Avoid washing dishes manually… the dishwasher (assuming its water efficient) uses less – a lot less!!
- Only turn on the dishwasher or washing machine when full.
- Leave saucepans soak rather than scrubbing them under the running faucet.
- Defrost food in advance to avoid using water to defrost faster.
- Leave a water glass out in the kitchen so as not to get a new glass every time you drink water.
- Rinse vegetables etc. in a bowl and not under the running faucet.
IN THE BATHROOM…
- Turn off the tap when brushing your teeth, only opening it when you need to rinse.
- When shaving, fill the sink with water instead of leaving the faucet open.
- TAKE SHORTER SHOWERS and turn off the water when shampooing etc.
- When waiting for shower to reach correct temperature, collect running water in bucket and reuse for cleaning etc.
- Place a bin in the bathroom to avoid throwing things into the toilet and flushing unnecessarily.
